      <image:title>News - Serving Two Masters</image:title>
      <image:caption>From the CNN link above, and here. How'd these promises turn out? And before you blame Republicans, Democrats controlled both houses of congress, and had 60 votes in the senate if you count Independents Bernie Sanders (who wanted universal healthcare, and called Obamacare a "good, Republican healthcare law") and Joe Lieberman, who was Al Gore's running mate in 2000, and became an independent in 2006 after losing his Democratic Primary to another Democrat in his bid for re-election. The Democrats had enough votes to give us universal healthcare in 2010. They just didn't want to, because they're just as beholden to the healthcare lobby as Republicans, if not more so.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>If the minimum wage simply kept up with productivity (shown), after adjusting for inflation, it would be almost $20 per hour today. If the minimum wage just kept up with inflation over the last 50 years (it was $1.60 in real dollars in 1968), it would be $11.25 per hour today. It's $7.25 at the federal level.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>"But we can't afford to pay workers more." Yes, they can. This compares employee compensation to corporate profits over time. See where the money's going? <image:title>Country Bicycle</image:title>
      <image:caption>As the political spectrum has shifted to the right in this country, it seems many people have hardly noticed at all. Politicians and media alike refer to these two parties as "the left" and "the right" but that's only relative to each other. And sometimes it's actually wrong. There are now Republicans who are left of some of the more right-wing Democrats. We can't move forward with our country leaning this far to the right.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>This accurately illustrates the problem when any society begins to allow the government leeway with domestic security. With the USA PATRIOT Act of 2001, American liberty was quickly swallowed by this overriding push for "security." We need to re-prioritize because this cannot be "the land of the free" or "the home of the brave" if we're too scared to allow our fellow Americans their freedom.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Drug War</image:title>
      <image:caption>In the top poll, the majority of people said they would turn their child in if they committed crimes where there was a victim. But the bottom poll, almost nobody said they'd turn in their child for the use of illegal drugs. This tells me that we all know, deep down, that criminalizing drugs is a bad idea. If we wouldn't do it to our children, why would we do it to someone else's?</image:caption>

      <image:title>Drug War</image:title>
      <image:caption>The "War on Drugs" hasn't reduced the percentage of the population addicted to drugs at all, no matter how much is spent. Which means ending the drug war should have a negligible impact on the number of addicts as well, but it would save us money and help people instead of ruining their lives forever.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>The "War On Drugs" officially began in 1971. This is not a coincidence. We now have more people in prison than any other country on earth both by outright number and percentage of population. "Land of the free"? Not so much. We have 5% of the world's population, and 25% of the world's prisoners.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>I grieve every fallen officer. This is why I believe these things in this piece need to be addressed. The way policing is being handled today is making it more dangerous for all of them. People are increasingly seeing police as the enemy, and it's not the fault of the media, or politicians. It's due to the policies within police departments nationwide.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Income Inequality</image:title>
      <image:caption>There's a myth that's been going around for a long time about the taxes being so high in the US that they're prohibitive to business. It's not true, no matter who says it, or how often. Think about how low we are on this list, then think about the fact that we spend more than nearly this entire list combined on our military, which we use in large part to protect these same countries.</image:caption>
    </image:image>
    <image:image>
      <image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/591c946cd1758e9fb0d8d002/1504816673336-TP3YG9Z59060V50XESYI/Tax+Rates.png</image:loc>
      <image:title>Income Inequality</image:title>
      <image:caption>As you can see, every Top Marginal Tax Rate is at a historic low right now. Have these low taxes created jobs, as believers in "trickle down economics" (officially called "supply side economics") would have you believe? No. Because companies only - only - hire people based on need. They don't hire people because their taxes are lower. That just means they get to keep more money in profit to share with their executives and shareholders. I have a plan to address this.</image:caption>
    </image:image>
    <image:image>
      <image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/591c946cd1758e9fb0d8d002/1504817583248-PEC48M8658S8N3LOO9RP/real-gdp-and-income.png</image:loc>
      <image:title>Income Inequality</image:title>
      <image:caption>There's a reason we, in the middle class, are feeling squeezed. It's because we are being squeezed. When GDP goes up, it should benefit all of us, but it doesn't. It only benefits the wealthy.</image:caption>
    </image:image>
    <image:image>
      <image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/591c946cd1758e9fb0d8d002/1504817352901-CL7NQ111VH6AKBYVCOWC/TaxesVsSpending.png</image:loc>
      <image:title>Income Inequality</image:title>
      <image:caption>We definitely do need to cut waste in our government, as I've covered elsewhere, along with cutting spending in general on things that don't make sense. But we also need to bring revenue up at the federal level. To do that, we have to go after those who can afford a tax hike, such as those making millions of dollars per year and up, not the middle class or poor.</image:caption>
    </image:image>
    <image:image>
      <image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/591c946cd1758e9fb0d8d002/1505090496554-QCN1QGVQRWMW6M3RQ8X4/WealthHeader.png</image:loc>

      <image:title>Income Inequality</image:title>
      <image:caption>One major problem with our current system of taxation is that the top tax bracket hasn't changed significantly in decades. And after you adjust for inflation, tax rates are lower than almost any time in the last 100 years. We need brackets set at higher income amounts, and with higher tax rates.</image:caption>
    </image:image>

      <image:title>Income Inequality</image:title>
      <image:caption>As you can see, no matter the percentage of regular people, like us, who support a policy in government, the likelihood of adopting that policy never increases. But what happens when more of the "economic elite" or special-interest groups want the policy (like the NRA, or many others on the "left")? Done deal. "Taken care of, Mr. Shareholder. Whatever you want. We. Are. Here. For. You. Mr. Shareholder, Sir!" Congress hasn't been working for us - the people of this country - for at least 35 years now. That is why the middle class is dying off. It's not immigrants. It's not welfare (at least not for the poor; "Yes, sir, Mr. Banker, sir! We know you've had some 'bad luck' lately, Mr. Banker, sir! Here's some money. Don't worry. We took it from the poor and middle class. It's not costing you a dime, Mr. Banker, sir!"). It's corruption. It's the oligarchy.</image:caption>
